Behavior Consultations

Kathy offers private behavior consultations for families seeking help with their dogs. Common concerns addressed in consultations include aggression toward family members, strangers or other dogs; separation anxiety; fears and phobias; housetraining; destruction; barking and rough play.

Locations:

Sumner Veterinary Hospital (www.sumnervet.com), Wednesdays. The initial evaluation session lasts two hours. Follow-up sessions may be scheduled and typically last one hour. Kathy’s fee for an evaluation at Sumner Vet is $235. Pre-payment to Sumner Vet by credit card at 253-863-2258, ext 3, (or by mailed check) is required to reserve an appointment.

Seattle, Ahimsa Dog Training, Thursdays. Contact Ahimsa Dog Training to schedule a session: DoggieZen.com or call 206-364-4072. 1.5 hour sessions at Ahimsa are $250.

Gig Harbor, Logan Park Training Center, Tuesdays. Contact Kathy directly to schedule a session: kathy@kathysdao.com or 253-752-2094. 2-hour initial evaluation sessions in Gig Harbor are $235. Follow-up lessons are available at $115 per hour. Payment by check or cash only.

During the appointment, Kathy will ask many questions about your dog’s daily routine and behavioral history. She will also observe your dog’s behavior directly and his/her interactions with family members. Then, with input from you, she will devise a behavior modification plan for your dog and describe its implementation. Occasionally, behavior modification will be deemed impractical or too risky. In those cases, other options (i.e., strict management, rehoming, euthanasia) will be discussed.

Kathy usually books 3 – 4 weeks in advance.
